Tigers too much for Jr. Bearcats

The High Desert Tigers continued their march toward an undefeated regular season, defeating the Ray Jr. Bearcats last Tuesday, 56 – 8. Behind a powerful and fast running attack, the Tigers proved to be too much for the Jr. Bearcats too handle.

“We just couldn’t match their speed,” Jr. Bearcats head coach Frank Lechuga said after the game. “They’re a very good team and we weren’t able to keep up with them.”

Despite the loss, Lechuga was pleased with the improvement he saw in his team compared to its performance over the past two games.

“We definitely played more aggressive than we did last week,” he said. “We did make some improvements. Unfortunately, we were matched up against a better team.”

One of the few bright spots in the game for the Jr. ‘Cats was Romeo Varley’s touchdown run, the lone scoring play in the game. Danny Garcia converted the two-point PAT on a rushing play.

The Jr. ‘Cats had a bye this week and will spend the week off continuing to improve their blocking and tackling, according to Lechuga.

Their next game is October 7 at Hayden.
