Georgie Digs: Some Memoirs of Hayden

Georgie Digs!

My brother, Bill Kishbaugh, has lived for a long time at Dripping Springs which is north of Winkelman, Arizona, and the title of his book is MEMOIRS OF HAYDEN, ARIZONA  1936 – 1950. It with its photos sure does bring back lots of memories of the place we called home.

Although my children, Ann, Francie, and Neal, were raised along Aravaipa Creek, they had been able to experience Hayden, although there had been many changes since I had lived there and gone to school there. Just one of the many pleasant memories is when we held my daughter Ann’s fifth birthday party in 1952 at my parents’ Asarco-rented house on Hayden’s Smelter Side. This was not long before my parents had to leave after my dad retired from his Asarco office job as Timekeeper. The young girls at that birthday party were the local Hayden girls Jean Harrington, Marsha Goodridge, Beverly Willard, Susie Coleman, Waka Hunt, Andrea Hall, and Shauna Griffith. Of course, my daughters Ann and Francie were there. Francie and Shauna Griffith were about three years old then.

In 1956, Hayden was incorporated, and in a contest by Look Magazine and the Municipal League, it was selected as an All-American City. I am glad that my children had been able to attend Hayden schools. I am also glad that as they got older they were good to keep in contact with me despite their busy lives. Really enjoyed is when I hear from my grandchildren and see and talk to their children! I am often called GG by them, and my oldest grandchild refers to me as Goose, but there may be other names that I don’t know about, or want to know about! After all, grandmas aren’t supposed to know everything, are they? They just worry!
