The Miner Swimmers hosted Arizona College Preparatory School on Thursday, Sept. 7.  The Girls team scores were:  Arizona College Prep 101 – San Manuel 68.  The Boys scores were:  Arizona College Prep 125 – San Manuel 20.  The Miners posted 20 personal best times in the defeat.

Arizona College Prep is one of the better Division III teams in the Arizona.  Having fast swimmers come to San Manuel helps measure how good the Miners are this year.

The Girls Medley Relay Team of Junior Darien Apuron, Freshman Star Chavez, Junior Gianna Sweeney, and Senior Raya Woods started things off with a win.   Gianna went on to win the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle.   Darien went on to win the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke.  Five wins would be all that the Miners could get on the day.

Things were tough for the Boys team.  They were unable to field a relay team and one of boys swam with a cast.  Even though the Boys did not win any races, they achieved personal best times in every race they swam.

First year swimmer Freshman Alyssa Riekofski was named Dynamite of the Meet.  She completed four events (the maximum) at the meet.  In every race, Alyssa achieved a personal best time.

Despite the scores, the coaches were optimistic about the results.  Several of the swimmers looked a little tired, which is normal at this point in the season.  The grueling practice schedule will pay off later in the season.  The boys team is expected to be at full strength soon and the 20 personal best times Miner swimmers had shows continuous improvement week to week.

Miner swimmers will travel to Florence on Thursday, Sept. 14, for a meet against Florence High School and Arete Prep beginning at 4 p.m.
