What’s up with John McCain?
The former Maverick.
I say former because he is now just an old wishy-washy version of himself, another politician who moves whichever direction the wind blows. He was quick to join the blowhard wind of Donald Trump and offered his support despite Trump insulting him along with other prisoners of war when Trump said McCain wasn’t a hero and was a loser for being captured. McCain was willing to overlook the insult and Trump’s stand on torture of prisoners, hoping that supporting Trump will bring back the far right Republican vote that may help him win reelection.
No self respect left.
It is time for a new Arizona Senator.
Then there is former Governor Jan Brewer telling Trump she is willing to become his Vice Presidential candidate. Seriously, Jan? You may meet his Mexican-hating requirements and support his wall but unfortunately you do not live up to his beauty queen looks expectations.
Michele Reagan, Secretary of State, has already displayed her incompetence (or as I suspect corruption), receiving her marching orders from ALEC and the Koch brothers via Il Ducey. The lack of polling places during the primary election and now the failure to mail out 200,000 publicity pamphlets to voters which may have impacted the vote in Proposition 123 which barely was passed and Proposition 124. Think of the money wasted in having those pamphlets printed.
Do you really think these failures by our Secretary of State are simple mistakes? If they were, she needs to be impeached or recalled. If not keep your eye on our legislators and governor and the dark money providers that they worship.
There has been a concerted effort in Arizona and other Republican-controlled states to disenfranchise minority and poor workers. Most notable is the state of Kansas where the Secretary of State is Kris Kobach, the same man who helped author Arizona’s “show me your papers” Senate Bill 1070. Arizona and Kansas are the only two states in the nation that are enforcing voter ID laws. Kobach has ties to White Nationalist groups and some Arizona politicians. He is also Trump’s immigration adviser.
On Muhammad Ali
Like most of the world, I was saddened by the news of Muhammad Ali’s death this week. Muhammad was one of my heroes. I followed his boxing career as a young man and was amazed at his boxing skills and quickness which was unheard of in the heavyweight division at that time. I grew to admire this handsome brash young man known as Cassius Clay who bragged and boasted but backed up his words with his fighting skills.
When he became a Muslim and changed his name, I was surprised but supported his decision. His views on the Vietnam War and racism in the country mirrored my views and many of the youth of America at the time.
When he was stripped of the heavyweight title for refusing to be inducted into the military after being drafted, I grew to admire him more. That he was willing to give up millions of dollars, fame and his freedom for what he believed in earned my respect.
After being vindicated in the courts, what he accomplished as a boxer after losing three years of his prime made history. That he continued to speak out for freedom, equality and justice during and after his career made him a great man and a great American. He was an ambassador for peace around the world.
Ali, you are the Greatest. Rest in Peace.
