The Fall, 2014 United Way of Pinal County Campaign will officially begin with a Kickoff Event and Awards Celebration on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort Ballroom in Maricopa, AZ. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. The dinner event will announce plans for the 2014 campaign and celebrate the success of the 2013 campaign with awards and recognitions for top contributors and special volunteers.
Beth Amoroso, Director of Human Resources at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort in Maricopa will lead the 2014 United Way of Pinal County Campaign as the campaign’s volunteer chair. Amoroso has been a United Way of Pinal County board member since 2007, and has served as community impact chair in 2013 and 2014. She began her casino industry career in Atlantic City, New Jersey and joined Caesars in 1989, working in Human Relations and Organizational Development, and becoming Human Resource Director at Harrah’s Ak-Chin in 2007. Under Beth’s leadership, Harrah’s Ak-Chin was the UWPC Top Donor in 2012 and received the 2013 Campaign of the Year Traveling Trophy in 2013. Her volunteer work includes service as Vice Chair of the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce and on the Chamber Foundation Board. She is active with Harrah’s Ak-Chin HERO Committee, the casino’s volunteer group which supports various causes in the area.
The United Way Board has established a community impact goal of $600,000 for this year’s Pinal County drive and is working on a plan to raise one million dollars by 2017. Those plans will be discussed during the event, and include a continued focus on our local efforts to raise money in and for Pinal County services. In last year’s drive, 40% of the funds raised were designated outside Pinal. Currently, twenty nonprofits serving Pinal County receive United Way grants for over 30 programs.
Michael J. Smith, Southeast Division Manager for Arizona Public Service Co., and the 2013 campaign chair will be recognizing the following: the Top 25 Contributing Businesses; the best campaign raising $10,000 or more; the best campaign raising under $10,000; a partner agency for its efforts to improve lives; several key volunteer awards and the announcement of the winner of the traveling trophy for the Pinal County campaign raising the most in contributions in 2013.
