Superior residents: sign up for free lead or arsenic testing

The Arizona Department of Health Services is offering two free testing options: 1) free, voluntary blood lead testing for up to 50 Superior residents, or 2) free, voluntary arsenic testing in wells and urine. Each option has its own eligibility requirements; please refer to the frequently asked questions below.

Frequently Asked Questions

When and where will the testing take place?

Testing will be at the Superior Clinic, 1134 Hwy. 60, on Aug. 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

How can I make an appointment?

Call 602-364-3118, email jennifer.botsford@azdhs.gov, or stop by our table at JFK Elementary School (1500 Sunset Drive, Superior, AZ 85173) on parent/teacher nights (July 27, 28, or 29) to make an appointment.

Who can be tested for lead?

Free blood lead tests are offered to children (0-6 years) and pregnant women who live in Superior.

Who can have their well and urine tested for arsenic?

Any person over six years of age who lives in a house that uses a private well can have their urine and well tested for arsenic.

Can I participate if I don’t own a well?

Yes! Free blood lead tests are offered to all children (0-6 years) and pregnant women in Superior.

Can I participate in both lead and arsenic testing?

Yes! If you meet the eligibility for each option, you may sign up for both.

Is there a waiting list for people interested in the testing but aren’t eligible?

Yes! We are creating a wait list for individuals interested in this testing. If we have openings available, we will call people on the wait list on a first-come first-served basis.

What if I cannot make it to the testing on Aug. 7 and 8?

Your health care provider can order lead and arsenic tests. ADHS can help you interpret your results.
