In a special open public meeting on Friday afternoon the governing board at Superior Unified School District voted unanimously to enter into negotiations with Steve Estatico to become the new school superintendent for the district.
Estatico has been the principal at High Desert Middle school in Globe. Originally from Pennsylvania, Estatico began his career in education in Superior where he served in the position of teacher, athletic director and dean of students.
Board President Cindy Benson will lead the negotiations and the board is expected to approve the employment contract at the regularly scheduled board meeting on May, 6. The board interviewed four candidates for the position during a day long executive session. The Arizona School Board Association assisted the district with the selection process.
The hiring process began in March following the board accepting the resignation of Patrick O’Donnell who has been with the district since 2013. Upon approval of the contract, Estatico will begin his position as superintendent on July 1, 2015.
