On Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m., members of the public and media are invited to join Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu at a memorial ceremony honoring fallen law officers. The ceremony will take place at the Pinal County Peace Officer Memorial in front of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, 971 Jason Lopez Circle, Florence. Keynote speaker for this year’s ceremony is retired Phoenix Police Officer, Jason Schechterle.

Jason Schechterle has been public speaking for over 10 years sharing his amazing story of the unimaginable adversity he faced after he was nearly fatally burned in a car crash. Now, he is speaking on behalf of his own non-profit foundation, Beyond the Flames, so that he can raise funds to help others who have experienced a similar trauma. Jason’s journey chronicles his fight for life, his amazing recovery and the inspiration that enables him to continue to persevere. His personal narrative exemplifies that the power of the human spirit can never be underestimated or extinguished. His story is one of life, rebirth and transformation.

Sheriff Paul Babeu said, “Jason is an inspiring Police Officer. He lived when most believed he would not and he used his tragic accident to inspire others to overcome life’s challenges. Jason is a true example of a servant leader that many in law enforcement aspire to follow his example.”

The Pinal County Peace Officer Memorial was dedicated in 2007 to fallen officers and their families from Pinal County. The memorial lists 35 local, state, and federal law officers killed in the line of duty, including 17 Pinal County peace officers killed since 1911.
