The sixth and eighth grade students at Mountain Vista School in Oracle were privileged to have Professor Betty Lise Anderson and Virginia LaPoint visit their classrooms and bring a lesson on electromagnetism.
On Oct. 19, Professor Anderson and Ms. LaPoint presented an “outreach speaker project” to the students. They provided all the materials, presented a lesson, and did a hands-on project on the principles of electromagnetism and that vibrations make sound.
Professor Anderson has been at the Ohio State University since 1990. She obtained her Ph.D. in Materials Science at the University of Vermont in 1990 and her MS from there, as well, in 1988. Her technical area is photonics.
The students enjoyed an hour-long lesson where they were able to make models and demonstrate the principles of electromagnetism and sound.
