Myra and Norm Warren are the new owners of the IGA grocery store in Kearny.

Norm and Myra Warren were both born and raised in the Kearny-Ray area. They have lived here nearly all their lives and raised their family here. They have five children and 11 grandchildren. Both of their parents still live in town. Their roots, friends and family ties are deep in the community. Norm and Myra are the new owners of what was once Gordon’s IGA. Their store is now named Norm’s Hometown Grocery. They are proud of their hometown and the name reflects this.
The Warrens took over the grocery on April 1. Yes, “April Fool’s Day,” they laughed. “It was always a dream that I would own my own store,” said Norm. Myra always wanted to own her own business so when Norm was asked if he was interested in buying Gordon’s IGA, they thought long and hard about it. We had known that Gordon’s was selling out. Rumor was they going to shutdown like they did in San Manuel but the truth was they were always going to sell it. Norm and Myra felt it was “better for someone with local interests and experience” to own the store. “Norm knows how to run the store well,” said Myra.
Norm has 35 plus years working for Gordon’s IGA, 28 of those years as manager. He started as a carryout boy at age 16. He has worked every department except the meat department. Gordon’s always supported the community but lived in Tucson. The Warrens are part of the community and will continue to support it. “We are blessed to have this opportunity,” said Myra.
“We will definitely make some changes,” said Norm. “We have a lot of ideas but will take it slow. We want to try new products and revamp some departments.” Norm’s Hometown Grocery will remain members of the Independent Grower’s Alliance (IGA). If customers have a special request for a new product we will do our best to get it in the store and try it out. They will be lowering prices for several categories of products. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Warrens said they will continue to run ads in the newspapers. They have a website where customers can look at weekly special coupons for free or greatly reduced items. The website is normsiga.com. They are also on Facebook. Norm’s Hometown Grocery wants the local people to know they are still here for them and really need their support. Norm and Myra said they want to thank their loyal customers in Kearny and those from the Hayden-Winkelman area that have supported the store over the years.
New signs have been ordered and as soon as the Warrens are settled, a grand opening will be held. Look for the date for the grand opening of Norm’s Hometown Grocery on Facebook or in the paper.
