Lila June Murray

Lila June Murray, 90, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2016 with family by her side. Lila was a long time resident of Kearny prior to moving to Colorado in 1999.

She was born in McGill, Nevada on July 22, 1925 to George and Vena (Chamberlin) Hunter.  Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, son Gerald, and sisters: Georgia, Vita, and Carmen.  She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Richard Garrett, son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Theresa Murray, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Lila graduated from White Pine County High School in Ely, Nevada in 1943. After graduation, she moved to Oakland, California where she met and married Fred Murray in 1945.   They returned to McGill and in 1957 moved to Kearny, Arizona, where they spent 41 years.  After retiring from Kennecott Copper Corporation, Lila and Fred operated a tax preparation service and video rental store in Kearny.  In 1999 they moved to Eckert, Colorado to be closer to their children.

Lila was always energetic and adventurous, whether it was moving to Oakland, CA by herself at 19, river rafting at the age of 78, parasailing in Mexico or riding elephants in Thailand.  She loved traveling abroad as well as camping and taking road trips in their travel trailer.  She played the piano beautifully and loved going to plays.  Her greatest passion was her family, and she spent many holidays and vacations visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held April 12 at Horan and McConaty in  Aurora, Colorado.
