Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. Nominations for 2014 Copper Basin Citizen of the Year are due Friday, Feb. 6 at the chamber office. Remember the nominee must reside in the Copper Basin area, acknowledged for the work accomplished in recent years. Letters must be signed and the person nominating can attend the selection meeting to speak on behalf of the nominee. The annual business meeting and COY recognition will be held Monday, Feb. 23.
The Women’s Expo is Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Hayden High mini auditorium. Applications for vendors are still being accepted. If you have a new business you want to promote this is a great chance to do so. Martina Burnam is chairperson and has a great selection of speakers and vendors in line for a great experience. The Pioneer Days Queens fashion show will take place at noon. Speaking of Queens, the deadline is near for Pioneer Days Queens and Junior Queens to apply. Meetings have already begun and ticket sales have started. Check with Angela at the chamber office for additional information.
Celebrating our Heritage is the theme for Pioneer Days. Queen contest is headed by Angela Ramirez. This has always been an exciting part of the week’s festivities. Local vendors are encouraged to apply for booth space. Booths are assigned on a first come first served basis with Rosalind Padilla and Gayle Carnes in charge of vendor row. Nancy Hinojos and Jean Slater will be collecting ads for the Pioneer Days t-shirts which will be a dark gray or black. Individuals may sponsor an ad for the back of the t-shirt not just businesses.
Entertainment lineup will be led by Adam Perlman of the Ray Federal Credit Union. The Cul de Sac is the best place for entertainment because the noise from the carnival interferes with what is going on at the stage, also motorized traffic is not allowed inside the carnival area for insurance purposes and can cause a fine. Volunteers will be administered by Anna Flores and Maria Munoz.
Security is under the direction of Bill Loehr and Bob Jordan and the VIPS. There will be volunteers at the front gate with VIPS patrolling. Everyone who is used to driving inside the Pioneer Park perimeter got upset when turned back. Times have changed and insurance is an issue when there is motorized traffic within the carnival area.
Start thinking of a parade entry. Gerry Kaufhold is parade chairman and will be gathering his parade crew. Not only floats, but individuals on horseback, bicycles, ATV’s, motorcycle groups, and marching groups need to apply. Use your imagination, the theme allows for great entries. The parade runs from Allen Drive to Beauford across the tracks.
Martina Burnam is poster chairperson and her ideas are great. Daniel Hinojos and the Blazers are the ice vendors. Keep your eyes open for the Carnival Pre Sales. Hopefully in February and there will be Split the Pot all weekend with the drawing Saturday evening.
It takes more than the chamber board and their spouses to set up and take down. Volunteers are always needed for this job. Join in the fun for a great four days, March 12-15.
