Arizona Department of Health to host open house on July 9

Superior – The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) will be holding an Open House from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 in the multipurpose room at JFK Elementary School, 1500 Sunset Dr. in Superior, 85173, in order to raise public awareness on receiving free lead and arsenic tests.

ADHS will be offering free voluntary lead testing for up to 50 residents of Superior. All residents that are 0-6 years of age, and, pregnant women, are welcome to participate.

The free testing event will be held at the Superior Clinic on Friday, Aug. 7, and Saturday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Residents will have their blood drawn by the phlebotomists provided by Superior Clinic/Cobre Valley Medical Center. Residents, six years of age or older, will have an opportunity to have their private well water and urine samples analyzed for heavy metals through ADHS’ Biomonitoring project.

The biomonitoring project is part of a four state consortium (with Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico) summary statistics will be shared with them, and with the CDC.

All participants will receive a letter with their test results and, if necessary, recommendations for reducing exposures. ADHS representatives will be available to speak with participants about their results. Names, contact information, and test results will be kept confidential.
