Good news for Kearny. At the special meeting of Town Council last week, the selection of Joseph Turitto was made for Chief of the Police Department. This is all pending on a successful background check and the establishment of residency, but I imagine all will go well. Welcome to Kearny from Glendale, Joe Guerrero,, and help us remain the safest town in Arizona.
The Mayor and Council also approved a contract to build a new chlorination plant to be located by the water tanks. This will serve well number eight, which will pipe water from the foothills, and will also serve well number three when it is put back in service. This water is not subject to the restrictions of the Gila Water Accord, and will pretty much assure Kearny’s water future.
This all ties in to the grants Kearny is seeking to reclaim well number three, revamp the water towers, and build a new booster station to serve the higher elevations of Kearny. Progrss is being made by Mayor Sommers and the Town Council.
The Town of Winkelman reported that the Easter weekend at Winkelman Flats went very well, with no complaints coming to the police. The weather was perfect for the event.
The golf tournaments in Hayden and Kearny for St. Joseph’s Church and for Infant Jesus of Prague were absolute successes… much money was raised and it was all done in good spirit. The fund-raising event for Jaden at Norm’s IGA was also very positive. Games, drawings, and even live music from Porter’s Ghost were the key, as well as the volunteer help.
I’ve mentioned this before, but the heat has really dried things up and there are a lot of weedy yards around town. Even as a firebreak is being built for the town, we need to make sure that our yards are firebreaks too. So grab a shovel and a rake and tackle it early in the morning.
I think this is the best time of year. Yes, the days are getting hot, but the humidity level keeps things tolerable, the mornings are sparkling and the nights are decently cool.
