The Oracle Brush Disposal Site is being forced to close due to being at capacity and drought conditions preventing the Oracle Fire District from burning the brush.
After the Bighorn Fire, many residents began trimming vegetation on their property and transporting it to the brush dump increasing the number of dump trips from 172 in April to 323 in May and 356 in June. Since January a total of 1,625 trips to the dump site have been made. The dump has reached its maximum storage capacity and will not be accepting any more vegetation until conditions allow the brush to be safely burned, making room for more dump space.
The brush disposal site is operated by Oracle Firewise and the Oracle Fire District. The brush dump is one of only two in southern Arizona. They are asking the public to be patient while the dump is temporarily closed until conditions allow for the brush removal and reopening of the disposal site. They encourage everyone to be Firewise. The Oracle Brush Disposal Site will close effective Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020.
