The students at Mountain Vista School in Oracle enjoyed a night of “Reading with the Bookaneers” on Thursday, Sept. 22. The event was the culmination of a week of the book fair where pirates were the theme.
Students were treated to night of stories about Pirates, they made “hooks” from plastic cups and foil, patches for their eyes, and figured out what their pirate names are. They competed in a contest to guess how many “cannon balls” were in a jar and how many “gold coins” were in the treasure chest in order to win the candies. Mia Ellis correctly guessed the number of cannon balls (malted milk balls) and Heather Stanford correctly guessed the number of chocolate coins. Students who “walked the plank” to all the stations and got their treasure maps stamped were rewarded with a pajama day on Friday.
The event was sponsored by the Mountain Vista PTO and was attended by numerous teachers and staff and over 100 members of the community. Clifford the Big Red Dog was in attendance as an honorary member of the pirate crew.
