Facelift for a few Superior Police Department vehicles

Four vehicles from the Superior Police Department fleet recently received a new paint job. They are now sporting a matte black paint job with glossy “ghost graphic” lettering. The black on black paint job is the new innovation for police departments across the country.

According to Chief David Neuss, normally glossy black paint would have been used, but he says the matte paint was done “at the behest of the paint place because we are covering up dents and dings.” Glossy paint would have shown all the imperfections of the used cars.

The Dodges were chosen to have a paint job because they are the vehicles in the best shape. The Dodges came to the department as black and whites from Maricopa City Police Department. The Humvee, the most striking of the group, is not owned by the Police Department. Chief Neuss stated, the Military “gives it to us for as long as we want to maintain it and run it.”

Besides the dodges and Humvee, the department has eight other cars in its fleet including a Ford Crown Vic, a Chevy Tahoe and a Chevy Caprice. They also have three white Crown Vics that they received from the Department of Public Safety.

“They are only for off-duty proposes at this point because they are all over one hundred and fifty thousand miles,” Neuss explained.

The cars in the department are used, Chief Neuss says, “until they fall apart, or they are no longer feasible to fix without going too much into overage, paying more for the car than the car is worth.”

The police department anticipates getting three brand new vehicles later in the year through the Resolution Copper Emergency Services Contract.

“We are still bouncing the most affordable with the best product for the town,” said Chief Neuss.

The department has quotes from Dodge, Ford, and Chevy.
