All the rest of this week, through Sunday, February 14, Old Time Pizza will give $2.00 to the Matthew York fund for every large or giant pizza ordered. A healthy response from all of us will make a difference for this boy. We are grateful to Gary and Lorraine and the whole pizza crew.
I also ask your love and concern for long-time Town Council Member Rudy Flores, who is battling a severe infection. Cards may be sent to Rudy at 333 South Pinnule Circle, Mesa, Arizona 85206.
And remember to go to the Swap Meet uptown on Saturday, February 13, beginning at 2 p.m. Who knows what wonderful things will be found there?
Looking ahead to Pioneer Days, March 23-26, this excellent weather should prompt us to get an early start in creating a float for the parade. Be inventive. Be creative. Let’s show off Kearny to everyone.
I took part, along with the mayors of Mammoth, Hayden, and Winkelman, in the groundbreaking for the Desert Sky Casino. The San Carlos Tribe plans to build a road and move in mobile units while the main casino is under construction. These will be busy times, and there are employment opportunities in slots, food and beverage, housekeeping, administration, security, and many more. Apply in person this Thursday, February 11, from 2-4
p.m. at the Dudleyville Community Center, 4004 North Dudleyville Road.
There is a real need for volunteers to serve in the Volunteers in Patrol (the VIPS) in support of our police department. Mark your calendar now to attend the VIPS training session on Sunday, February 21. Younger adults are especially sought. You may call me at 363-9781 for more information. I am usually home since I am still in recovery from my operation in December.
I will be joining Town Manager Anna Flores and Council members in traveling to Phoenix for the legislative day. I have lots of questions to ask, for our legislature is doing several things which are anti-education and antithetical to the needs of rural communities.
And on a lighter note, I enjoyed giving a phone call to Andrea Griffith on Super Bowl Sunday. We reconnected around the fact that both of us were in the star group for the very first Super Bowl in the Los Angeles Coliseum (Green Bay vs. Kansas City). Andrea played flute and I played baritone horn in the University of Arizona Marching Band. And what was the name of that other guy? Played trumpet or something… oh, yes! Al Hirt.
So we didn’t have to pay anything to see that first game, and we even got our expenses paid.
