Smoke plumes from the #KearnyRiverFire can be seen through the uprights at the Ray High School football stadium.
The #KearnyRiverFire has blackened the desert near the town of Kearny.
At the noon briefing held by the State Forestry department, officials reported that the #KearnyRiverFire is 15 percent contained and grew to 1,100 acres. The evacuations have been lifted in town have been lifted with the exception of Stevens Trailer Park. The Red Cross shelter in Superior is now being moved to the LDS church in Kearny and will also serve as a cooling station. The fire continues to advance north-northwest
Officials from the Red Cross encouraged residents who have been affected by the fires to contact them at the LDS church if they need help entering their homes or are in need of cooling.
The increase of acreage of the fire grew following an aerial GPS of the burned areas. There is a multi agency approach to the fire and 200 firefighters are on the blaze. Incident command continues to monitor the fire and have developed multiple strategies of attack on the fire and are working to protect Kelvin/Riverside and the railroad.
There has been one firefighter injured last night due to smoke inhalation. He was transported to Maricopa burn unit and is being released after observation. Firefighters are fighting this fire in 100 degree heat and are being monitored and cooled on a regular basis. Five structures were damaged and one car.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and it is still under investigation by the Town of Kearny, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and the State Forestry Department.
