On Saturday the Mammoth Historical Society museum opened its door to the public for a Story Swap event. The event drew a good crowd and resulted in the museum getting some items donated and historical information from those that shared stories about the Mammoth area.

Stan Benjamin author of “Mammoth: An Illustrated History”, donated some of his research documents from various projects he has worked on. Benjamin also donated some police department decals and very generously gave the proceeds of his book sales at the Story Swap to the Mammoth Historical Society. Stan previously provided a file of his book Mammoth: An Illustrated History to the Historical Society and waived his royalty rights so it can be printed and sold by the Mammoth Historical Society. Anyone wanting to buy a copy can contact Diana Stirling at 520-487-0268.

The museum also received an old bleach bottle found at the Tiger town site and the original charter of the local 2223 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) organized in the 1950s at San Manuel. The document in a display case was donated by Sal Liotta. The historical society would like to thank everyone for their donations and the Fugett family for loaning their mineral collection for display at the Story Swap event.

The Mammoth Historical Society is compiling files on Mammoth history and working on getting some permanent displays to exhibit at the museum. They hope to be able to open the museum on a regular basis in the fall. Anyone wishing to donate items or join the Mammoth Historical Society, contact Diana at 487-0268.
