On Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the annual Home Tour take over Superior. This fun event offers tours of homes and buildings, a first class antique show, and an art show with local and regional artists. The Mata Ortiz potters from Mexico will also be featured along with speakers Wyatt Earp, “Doc Holiday…the Story Hollywood Never Told”, Sam Lowe, longtime Arizona travel writer discussing his latest book “Arizona: Lens, Lyrics and Lore” and Steve Germick, Tonto Forest Archaeologist, sharing stories about Mattie Earp, who is buried in Superior.
Live music and entertainment on the veranda of the restored Magma Club is one of the stops on the tour. Know what a didgeridoo is and how to play it? Watch the Bernie and Doc Didgeridoo and Flute Show. Superior has a collection of eclectic homes….each one with a different personality. You’ll see homes that have been renovated almost exclusively with repurposed and recycled materials, those with an artist’s touch and some that you won’t understand why they weren’t torn down when you see the “before” pictures.
Don’t miss the “puzzle house”, made up of “pieces” from six different homes. Superior is proud of its homes and is excited to share them. Visitors will go home with some great, affordable, ideas for their own projects. Bonus for all ticket holders: two for one passes to both the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the Renaissance Festival, event partners. Tickets are $10 prepaid or $12 at the door. For those that like to hike, Bill Vogler, LOST trail steward, will lead a hike on Sunday, Jan. 25, to the old tunnel on the canyon portion of the LOST trail. The four and a quarter mile round trip hike will start at the chamber building at noon and end about 3 p.m. It’s rated medium difficulty and includes a two mile relatively steep uphill walk on the old road. This hike gives you a chance to see the “Million Dollar Highway” that opened in 1922 and ran until 1952 and linked Globe to Phoenix.
