Copper Corridor volleyball players earn post-season honors

Year after year an increasing number of local area volleyball players are recognized by different organizations for their performance during season.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) released its list of players receiving post-season honors this week.

The following is a list of players and coaches, by team, who received recognition for their efforts this season:

Ray

• AIA Division V All-Section IV First Team:Stormee Galka (Hitter/Middle Blocker) and Sidney Chenoweth (Setter).

• AIA Division V All-Section IV Second Team:Sabrina Martinez (Hitter/Middle Blocker).

• AIA Division V All-Section IV Honorable Mention:Gabrielle Juvera (Libero) and Brittany Paton (Hitter/Middle Blocker).

Superior

• AIA Division V All-Section IV Second Team:Hunter Flanagan (Libero).

• AIA Division V All-Section IV Honorable Mention:Cierra Navarrette (Hitter/Middle Blocker), Gabby Salcido (Hitter/Middle Blocker), Janessa Perez (Setter), Pinky Thomas (Hitter/Middle Blocker).

San Manuel

• AIA Division V All-Section V Second Team:Kadi Monfred (Hitter/Middle Blocker) and Ashley Vargas (Libero).

• AIA Division V All-Section V Honorable Mention:Jade Barcelo-Willard (Hitter/Middle Blocker), Felicia Medina (Hitter/Middle Blocker), Angela Navarro (Hitter/Middle Blocker), Mireya Tamayo (Hitter/Middle Blocker).

Andrew Luberda began writing for Copper Area News Publishers (CANP) in February 2013 after working 15 years in Healthcare Financial Management. Andy covers sports for 11 high schools. His stories are published in Copper Basin News, San Manuel Miner and Superior Sun, in addition to the San Tan Valley Daily PRSS and CopperArea websites. Additionally, he has written human interest stories and business profiles. In May 2012, he earned an AAS in Sports Management at Central Arizona College before graduating with a BS in Communication from Arizona State University in 2014. He and his wife, Kelli, have three sons – AJ, Kyle, and Kade.
