San Manuel Miner
Three San Manuel High School students won awards for their scholastic and athletic achievements during the school year. The awards were part of the Luz Social Hispanic Sports and Academic Enrichment Program and were presented at the 30th annual Hispanic Sports and Academic Enrichment Awards banquet. The San Manuel High School students receiving awards for their outstanding accomplishments in academics and athletics were Richard M. Romo, Manuel Aristeo Chavez and Melissa Janay Flores.
Richard Romo is a 2014 graduate and will be attending Grand Canyon University in the fall. He received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition (signed by Congressman Raul Grijalva), the Joel Valdez Award for Academic Excellence, Certificate of Honor Pima County Board of Supervisors and the Fred G. Acosta Student Athlete of the Year.
Manuel Chavez was a junior and will be returning to school next year. He received the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, City of Tucson, Ward V Council Office Certificate of Recognition, Fred G. Acosta Student Athlete of the Year Award and the Certificate of Honor Pima County Board of Supervisors.
Melissa Flores is a 2014 graduate. She was awarded the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, Certificate of Honor Pima County Board of Supervisors, Fred G. Acosta Student Athlete of the Year Award, and the Isabel Garcia Award for Academic Excellence. Melissa will be attending Grand Canyon University this fall.
