Rocket’s red glare will light up the sky Friday night.
Superior – For some, the fourth of July is a day that’s marked by the United States of America declaring its independence from the King of England. Other people see it as a birthday celebration, marking the birth of a great nation.
There are those who see it as a reminder of the infallibility of government and the need for the people to watch over the doings of those who have been duly elected to watch over them. Of course, there are people who see it as a reminder of past transgressions of a young government, against the natives of the land or persons who were brought to the land against their will, or, if with will, while misled.
Some dwell on the bravery of the men who signed the declaration of independence, knowing that to do so was to potentially, and for some practically, sacrifice their honor, wealth, and lives for the greater good.
Whatever else the 4th of July means to you, chances are, when you think about it, you’ll find that it means a certain pride of association with the finer ideals, laws and people of this country and a desire to celebrate those attributes which are good.
This year, the Town of Kearny with the assistance of the Kearny Little League is celebrating the joy of being American this 4th of July with events from afternoon until evening. On July 4, from noon to 5 p.m., there will be free swimming for all. Wait, there’s more! From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be free hot dogs, drinks, watermelon, snow cones and lots of fun all served up at Hubbard Park.
At 6 p.m. the fun moves over to the Kearny Little League Field for a good old fashioned game of baseball. The Hayden Little League Majors All Stars will take on the Kearny Little League Majors All Stars. The concession stand will be open.
For a grand finale, fireworks will light up the sky, as soon as it’s dark.
