Gabby Kipp will begin her junior year at Superior High School with a new set of leadership skills. She recently attended a week long Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) State Leadership conference at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. Gabby was selected by the teachers and administrators at the Superior Junior Senior High School.

The mission of HOBY is to inspire and develop a global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. The seminar she attended is focused on helping high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them into becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.

During the week long conference student delegates from throughout the state of Arizona learned valuable leadership skills. Gabby explained that she would like to use her newfound leadership skills to help make her school more outstanding and help her peers be more respectful. During the conference the HOBY delegates were able to hear a guest speaker from Rachel’s Challenge. Rachel’s Challenge is a national non-profit that is dedicated to creating safe, connected school environments where learning and teaching are maximized. The teaching of this non-profit are based on the life and writings of Rachel Scott who was one of the first victims of the Columbine school shooting. “I would like to work to bring a Rachel’s Story presentation to our school,” explained Gabby.

Gabby is the daughter of Matt and Andrea Kipp. She has a brother Tyler Kipp who attends college at Central Arizona College. She is a member of FCCLA and plans to run as a candidate for the junior class vice president. After high school Gabby plans to attend CAC and transfer to the University of Arizona to study to become a pediatrician.

The Superior Optimist Club contributes funding to help support the tuition of the selected students to the HOBY conference. To learn more about HOBY visit their website at www.hoby.org. To learn more about the Rachel’s Challenge non profit visit their website at www.rachelschallenge.org.
