A special informal meeting was held at the Oracle Fire station on Thursday, June 19. The meeting was held to inform the public about the fire dangers that exist in the Oracle area and the importance of becoming Firewise. Over 60 people attended the meeting. Fire Chief Larry Southard said he has not seen the extreme fire level arrive so early as this year. Usually extreme conditions arrive around 10 days before July 4.

Chief Southard and Assistant Chief Robert Jennings gave a brief overview on the John Adams fire including a question and answer session. Rachel Opinsky, co-chairperson of the Firewise board spoke about the Firewise program and the Emergency Notification System. Other issues discussed at the meeting included evacuation planning, the One Call Now auto dialer system (reverse 911), the upcoming brush burning at the brush disposal site and Firewise property evaluations.
