It is a pleasure to hear of the Superior High School students who recently completed programs with Cobre Valley Institute of Technology (CVIT). The CVIT ceremony was held at the Grand Canyon College. It was well attended with enthusiasm and excitement for the futures of the students. Superior is one of several schools that participate in the CVIT program which allows high school students the opportunity while in high school to take college courses. CVIT will help prepare students for a productive life in a competitive workforce.

The CVIT classes are offered as school credit so the students will not only be able to walk out of high school with their diploma but also a certificate in the field they have chosen. This opportunity can help students obtain a job out of high school that will enable them to help pay for college.

Congratulations to the following Superior High School students who took advantage of the CVIT program: Michael Nunez (senior), Certified Nursing Assistant;  Cody Schcolnick (junior) Certified Nursing Assistant ;  Matthew Zavala (junior), Welding Technology;  Christopher Villaverde (senior), Electrical and Instrumentation Technology; and Jennifer Ybarra (senior) received a Certificate of Participation in the Certified Nursing Program. Parent and JFK Elementary School teacher, Kathy Zavala attended the ceremony and said, “It was a really nice ceremony held outside at Grand Canyon College. I’m so excited for these kids and am so grateful to CVIT for what they have done for them.”

CVIT offers classes in the health care fields, agriculture, welding technology, business education, early childhood education, engineering, industrial trades, marketing, media, performing arts, family and consumer sciences education and education professions. These general areas do contain specific career related programs. Today’s students will spend their lives in a multi-tasking, technology driven, diverse world and having the knowledge and desire to be equipped with the skills to do so will be beneficial to them.

If you are interested in more information about the CVIT programs feel free to contact a guidance counselor at the high school or visit their website at: www.cvit81.org.
