The Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission held a hearing on April 17 concerning the special use permit for the Pinal County Wellness Center medical marijuana dispensary looking to open in the town of Oracle. The proposed site is located at 1800 W. American Ave. According to the meeting agenda packet, a petition with 119 signatures of Oracle residents opposed to the dispensary was received. Fourteen letters in opposition were also received. There were no letters or petitions received in favor of the dispensary.
At the commission hearing nine Oracle residents spoke out against the medical marijuana dispensary being located in Oracle. Only one person spoke in favor and he was the current property owner. Dr. Glen A. Wilt, Jr. His legal counsel David Dow was in attendance. The commission voted unanimously to recommend denial of the special use permit to the Pinal County Board of Supervisors based on the public opposition presented at the hearing. The board of supervisors will make the final decision at a regular board session scheduled for May 28.
