Firefighting in the Town of Superior has maybe gotten a little easier, thanks to the City of Mesa.

The Superior Town Council, last week, officially accepted the donation of a 1997 Pierce Quantum firetruck from the town’s neighbors to the west.

MFD’s Assistant Chief Jim Bloomer made the presentation and Dave Richins of Resolution Copper was happy to facilitate the donation.

“We are excited to be able to send this truck here,” Boomer said. “It has been a very good vehicle for us. It was purchased by taxpayers of Mesa and it is good to continue to serve the taxpayers of Mesa while it is up here. You obviously have a need for it and thousands of people from Mesa every day travel through your town. We look at it as a way to take care of your citizens as well as an extended way to take care of our citizens.”

In other business, the council:

• Was introduced to the two newest employees, SPD officer Michael Jardine and Public Works part-timer Argel Quiroz.

• Approved an alcohol beverage permit for the Magma Club for Tabitha Villaverde on May 24;

• Directed Police Chief Mark Nipp to conduct research into outsourcing police and fire dispatching with Globe;

• Approved a letter of support for the Superior School District for a grant submission for a school resource officer; and

• Appointed Henry Munoz, Soyla ‘Kiki’ Peralta and Ray Ramirez to the Economic Development/Annexation Committee for one-year terms.

There will be a special meeting scheduled for April 30 at 7 p.m. The regularly scheduled meeting for May 1 has been cancelled. The next regularly scheduled meeting is set for May 15 at 7 p.m. Mayor Jayme Valenzuela encourages all members of the community and public to attend.
