The Arizona Department of Transportation is set to begin a construction project this month to replace the Aravaipa Creek Bridge on State Route 77, which is located about 15 miles north of Mammoth (milepost 123-124).
The project includes removal of the existing structure and replacing it with a new concrete bridge. In addition, the project includes installing new guardrails and widening SR 77 to align with the new bridge.
The bridge will be replaced in two separate construction phases over the next year. Initially in phase I, the northbound lane on the bridge will be closed to traffic while the southbound bridge structure is constructed. Then in phase II, work will take place on the northbound bridge with traffic using the new bridge. Each phase will last about six months with the project anticipated to be completed in spring 2015.
During construction there will be one lane in use and temporary traffic signals will be at each end of the bridge to alternate northbound and southbound traffic across the bridge.
