Three students from Mountain Vista School competed in the Pinal County Spelling Bee in Coolidge on Friday. They were the top three finishers at the Oracle Spelling Bee held on Jan. 21. Mrs. Monika Bond has been working with the three students along with three alternates. She had them practicing spelling, learning word origins and holding study sessions after school to be ready for the competition which will involve 68 students from schools throughout Pinal County. The top spellers at Mt. Vista were: First place, Makayla Martin; second place, Julia Cardenas Tellez; and third place, Demi Nicholson. This year’s alternates are Kevin Valenzuela, Daniella Kotopoulous, and Reagan Martin.
John Hernandez lives in Oracle. He is retired and enjoys writing and traveling. He is active in the Oracle Historical Society. He covers numerous public events, researches historical features and writes business/artist profiles.
