There is strength in numbers, but in the case of the Hayden wrestling team the Lobos are finding strength despite only traveling with seven wrestlers.
The Lobos finished fifth out of 21 teams at last weekend’s Titan Invitational, which took place at Chandler Prep High School.
All seven Lobos’ wrestlers placed at the two-day event, including three who brought home first-place medals and another who finished second.
Mikee Mariscal (106), who was named Lightweight MVP, was one of three Lobos to finish with a perfect 6 – 0 and take the top step of the medal stand. Noah Monroy (145) and Brandon Cruz (152) were the others. Ryan Donovan went 5 – 1 and placed second. Omar Lopez (120) and Joel Rodriguez (195) were fourth-place finishers while Peter Kame (170) placed sixth.
Earlier last week, the Lobos went 1 – 1 – 1 at the Round Valley four-way dual meet, losing to host Round Valley, defeating Chandler Prep (36 – 18) and ending in a tie with AZ College Prep. Mariscal and Rodriguez were each 3 – 0 at the meet. Lopez, Donovan, and Cruz each had two wins, and Noah Monroy went 3 – 1.
Upcoming schedule: Dec. 14 at Fountain Hills.
