It’s all about paying it forward.

Last week, the San Manuel Elks made a sizable contribution to the local Boy Scout Troop who will use the funds to help more local youth.

The San Manuel Elks Lodge was notified by the Arizona Elks Major Projects that it had earned a $1,000 Community Rewards Grants.

“This grant is awarded to you because of the Lodge’s support of the Arizona Elks Major Projects during the past fraternal year,” said Ira Cohen, in a letter to the local Elks.

Tom Miller, a member of the San Manuel Elks Lodge, said that they had actually earned a second grant and would be looking at where it could be spent and where it could be best used.  The group earned the funds because the membership had given so generously.

Terry Newman, scoutmaster for the local troop, said they would put the funds to good use starting a Sea Scouts group which is a Boy Scouts program that dates back to the 1940s and teaches young people about nautical history and skills. The program is co-ed and is open to boys and girls ages 14-20.
