Mercedes S. Quijada

Our heavenly Father welcomed Mercedes S. Quijada into his arms on June 15, 2017.  Mercedes passed away at her home in Mammoth. She was 96 years old, having been born to Eliazar and Mercedes Salgado on April 20, 1921 in Nogales Sonora.

Mercedes came to Tiger, Arizona as a teenager. She soon met the love of her life, Francisco Quijada.  Mercedes and her “Viejito” were married for 56 years before his passing.  She is also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Sylvia Bracamonte and grandson Richard.

Mercedes is survived by seven children, George, Janie (Rick) Sanchez of Mammoth, Mercy (Steve) Ronquillo of San Manuel, Rocky (Roberta) of Tucson, Ofelia (Hector) Olivas, Elvira (Fred) Moraga of Sahuarita and Frank (Barbara) of Scottsdale.  She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother and sister, Guillermo Salgado and Bertha Granillo.

Mercedes was very dedicated to her faith.  As a young woman she was a member of the Altar Society of Blessed Sacrament Church.  She enjoyed crocheting; many family members have a sample of her handiwork.  Her biggest joy was spending time with her family. She also liked to tend to her flower garden.

Services will be on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mammoth.  Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. with the Rosary at 10. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with Father Balduck officiating. Interment will be at the Valley View Cemetery in Mammoth. Online Guestbook: www.GriffithMortuary.com.
