The San Manuel girls’ basketball team defeated Tombstone in the 1st-round of the Division IV State Championship to notch their 22nd win of the season, 45 – 42. The 22 wins are the most at the school in the past eight seasons. Unfortunately, their season ended after falling to top-seeded Valley Union in the 2nd-round last Saturday, 64 – 41.

First-year head coach Dave Jungbluth led the Miners to a 13-game turnaround from last season’s 9 – 15 record.

Five Miners’ seniors leave the basketball program knowing they are part of group that made history. Angelica Zuniga, Ana Zuniga, Analisa Robles, Nicole Primero-Predgo, and Felicia Gomez can move on to the next chapters in their lives with pride as they helped give the Miners’ a new direction for future teams to build upon.

Junior Kadi Monfred is 1 of 3 juniors who look to return next season. After having players with substantial varsity experience this year, the Miners will be a young team next year with six freshman listed on current varsity roster.
