Residents of Kearny are anxious for library services return to the Town of Kearny. Earlier this year, the Town of Kearny had to close the library’s physical location because there were several structural and environmental concerns in the building. As an interim solution the Town is working with James Ruiz to renovate the former La Cantina Lounge to house the library.
The Town is working to have the library reopen in the new location in September. Recent inquires from the public to the Pinal County Library District, confirmed that until the Town is working from a physical library location, it is not possible to have countywide interlibrary media services. Residents in Kearny can utilize the inter-county lending program at the Public Libraries in Superior, Mammoth, San Manuel or Oracle. Once the new location is opened the countywide lending will resume.
Town Manager Tyler Bingham confirmed that all of the books in the library are safely put in storage and they will be able to return to circulation.
“The new location will not have enough space to house our entire collection,” he explained. The Town does not have an estimated time on when they will be able to determine when the original library will be able to be returned to use.
The Kearny Town Library staff is still offering limited programing at Constitution Hall on Thursdays in Kearny. Coffee and Conversation is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Summer Reading continues on Thursdays: Tweens 11 a.m. to noon, Littles noon to 1 p.m. and Teens 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Fun Van visits Kearny from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
