The San Manuel High School softball team began its 2022 season on Feb. 24, competing in the 28th Annual Dorado Classic.

The Lady Miners played against Sabino, resulting in a 0-15 loss. The second game of that day was against Flowing Wells, the final score of the game was 4-15, in Flowing Wells’ favor. The girls ended the first day with a late game against Salpoint Catholic, which ended with another loss for the Lady Miners in the 1-11 final.

The girls started day two by playing a close game with Vista Grande. San Manuel lead the game until the fifth inning, when Vista Grande was able to take the lead by only one run, holding it for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 5-6 loss for the Lady Miners. The last game of the tournament was a tough loss against Cholla, with a final score of 1-10.

The girls faced Desert Christian yesterday at El Camino Baptist Church; results were unavailable at press time. The girls will not play after that until March 8, traveling to St. David.

The Miner baseball team also began their season yesterday, against Desert Christian. Results from that game was unavailable at press time. The boys will continue their week by traveling to Florence to compete in the 34th Annual Joe Padilla Tournament starting on March 2.
