Lady Miner post close win over Desert Christian

  The San Manuel Miners basketball team continued their season with a three-game week.

  On Tuesday, Feb. 23, The boys and girls teams traveled to Desert Christian High School. The Lady Miners came out victorious in a close game, winning only by a point, 41-40. The boys fell short of coming home with the win with a final score of 40-54.

  Feb. 25, both teams traveled to play against Valley Union. The Miners scored 11 points in the first quarter, but still trailed Valley Union by 10 points. The Miners put points on the board for every quarter, but in the end were unable to catch up with the Blue Devils. The final score to the boys game was 36-52. The Lady Miners came in hot off of their last victory, and secured another one against the Blue Devils. Ending the game with a 16-point lead, the final score was 41-25.

  On Saturday, Feb. 27, Fort Thomas came to San Manuel for a rematch against the Miners. The Lady Miners were unable to keep up with Fort Thomas. The score at the end of the first quarter was San Manuel 7, and Fort Thomas 20. The Lady Miners continued to play, putting at least 8 points on the board for the remaining quarters. Unfortunately, they were unable to come out on top; the final score was 33-64.

  The boys team was able to end their week on a positive note. The Miners played a close game against the Apaches. By the end of the first quarter, the Miners were up by only one point. They were able to hold onto it for the entire game. The Miners avenged their previous loss against Fort Thomas, with a close 57-52 victory. The Miner reached out to the coaches for a comment on this week’s games, but as of press time, no contact has been made.
