A lifeguard training class was held at the Mammoth Pool April 28 through May 12, 2016. Fourteen people, from Mammoth, San Manuel, Oracle, Hayden, Winkelman, and Kearny attended the training. The Tri-Community is fortunate to have the resources and community involvement needed to conduct lifeguard training at our local pool. Many thanks to the Town of Mammoth, the Sea Lions Swim Team, Kendra Armenta, and Pinal Rural Fire Rescue for helping to make the lifeguard training possible.
The class participants learned how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with the American Red Cross lifeguard training program. The class consisted of a pre-course swimming skills test, 7.5 hours of on-line learning, and 19.5 hours of classroom/pool instruction and practice. The course included detailed training and testing of hands-on skills as well as comprehension on written tests. The certification, which includes First Aid, CPR and AED training, is valid for two years upon completion and is accepted nationwide.
All fourteen participants passed the course and are now ready to serve as certified lifeguards in their communities. Great job to everyone who took the class at the Mammoth Pool! They are now ready to make sure everyone has a safe and fun summer staying cool in the pool!
