Blessed Sacrament Church’s Dia de Los Muertos journey began at the Kidney Dialysis Center in Mammoth. It was a beautiful fall morning and many people showed up to support this scared walk as a religious act of devotion to family members who have passed on. There were youth, parents, grandparents even a few babies were on the walk. The Mammoth Police Department escorted the walkers.

Walkers stopped at the Blessed Sacrament Church for a prayer circle. All attendees gathered and held hands in a circle after a spiritual prayer the people walking spoke the names of the loved ones they were walking for. The group then reassembled to continue the walk to the Valley View Cemetery in Mammoth.

Many members of the group walking had signs made up with names, pictures, drawings on them to represent the people they have lost in their lives. One lady spoke about losing three people this year and being blessed with two new babies in the same year. Although life and death are the cycle of life it is still difficult to lose people you love.

Once the group reached the top of the Valley View Mammoth Cemetery, Leane Garcia, who led the group with warmth and enthusiasm, told everyone, “Thank you for coming and the people who sponsored each person and for the youth who carried the cross all the way. Come out again next year. We will do this again.”

There were sandwiches and water available for everyone to enjoy. Many people visited grave sites and others received a ride home from the walk.

Thank you all who participated with the Blessed Sacrament Church honoring of the dead and walking for Dia de los Muertos.
