Students at the Mammoth STEM School learned the importance of fire prevention and safety from some extra special visitors.

The Mammoth Fire Department visited the students of Mammoth STEM school last week and taught such lessons as checking for fires, smoke alarm batteries, pre planning escape routes and the ever important stop, drop and roll.

Following the classroom lessons, students got an up close view of the fire truck and equipment on the truck such as hoses, nozzles, jaws of life, self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and ladders. The most important things discussed communication, responsibilities and team work.

The Mammoth Fire Department even demonstrated the use of a fire extinguisher on some tree branches. One of the firemen dressed in his turnout gear to show the students what the fire department typically wears when they are called to a fire.

Both the students and firefighters enjoyed the opportunity to learn and share this information that could possibly safe their lives and the lives of friends and family. Special thanks to the Mammoth Fire Department attendees (Lisa Casillas, Frank Delgado, Alert Alameda, Miguel Gonzales, Marty Ponce and Cisco Delgado) for their time donated and helping to teach our young students skills to help save lives.
