Frank Pratt, District 8 Representative in the Arizona Legislature, visited Mammoth Elementary STEM School on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015. All the students and staff assembled at the flag pole where everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the Star Spangled Banner and then stood at attention for a moment of silence while remembering those that died on 9/11/2001 in the terrorist attack of the Twin Towers in New York City.
At the assembly, new STEM School Student Council Members were introduced. This year’s Student Council Members were elected by the student body on Aug. 12. They are: Ariza Castillo, President; Karyme Young, Vice President; Niana Gallego, Secretary; Vicente Curry, Treasurer; Izayah Valenzuela, 3rd Grade Representative; Julie Garcia, 4th Grade Representative; Nick Vance, 5th Grade Representative; and Mireya Curry 6th Grade Representative. Mrs. Scott is the sponsor for Student Council.
Representative Pratt then spoke to the students about what a State Representative does at the legislature. He then posed for a photograph with Principal Katy Wilkins and the August Students of the Month. The students were Haliyah Smith, Kindergarten; Kaylee Medina, 1st/2nd Grade; Kayla Ortega, 3rd/4th Grade; and Martin Orduno 5th/6th Grade. Mr. Pratt was then given a tour of the campus and classrooms by Superintendent John Ryan, Principal Wilkins and the Student Council.
John Hernandez lives in Oracle. He is retired and enjoys writing and traveling. He is active in the Oracle Historical Society. He covers numerous public events, researches historical features and writes business/artist profiles.
