Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles was in San Manuel Thursday to drop off a check for the Elk’s Project Graduation. The check was in the amount of $2,000 and comes from the county’s RICO funds. Tom Miller accepted the donation on behalf of the San Manuel Elks. He told Voyles that, “If it wasn’t for you guys, we couldn’t put this on.” Voyles said, “These funds are crucial to our children.” Fred Creeley thanked the county attorney for donating the RICO funds.
Project Graduation was started 10 years ago after a high school student lost their life in an automobile accident on graduation night. The program is designed to allow graduates and their guests to have fun in a safe, alcohol and drug free environment. The students enjoy an overnight party at the Elks where they can win prizes including lap top computers and a car. During the 10 year period that the program has been operating, not one student has been involved in a serious car accident. Project Graduation has not only saved lives but it allows local law enforcement to patrol other areas where they are needed.
