Oracle – On Thursday, May 1, 16 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students were inducted into National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at Mt. Vista School in Oracle.
The NJHS helps students to build the skills that ensure academic success, including academic excellence, leadership, character and service. These skills serve the students for the rest of their life. It is one of the oldest organizations in the United States which focuses on student recognition, as well as one that is deeply respected for what it helps students achieve in the categories of community improvement and personal development.
The candlelight ceremony was conducted by the current membership. Angel Jennings, president, was the master of ceremonies, welcoming parents, the superintendent, Mr. Dennis Blauser, and governing board members, Mr. Kurt Steffens and Mrs. Nellie Doran. The members who spoke in the ceremony were Alexandria Cota: Service; Matthew Peru: Leadership; Keefer Gagnon: Character; Hannah Nehrmeyer: Citizenship; and Trevor Lata: Scholarship.
Julia Tellez Cardenas led the new inductees in the membership pledge. Victoria Flores and Megan Buckler presented the certificates of membership.
The new members are Reagan Martin, Makayla Martin, Allison Soulé, Larissa Smith, Wyatt Arbizo, Gillian Cole, Sabrina Garcia, Nicollette Gomez, Samuel Reyes, Joshua Reyes, Amy Lewis, BaiLee Hill, Sophia Mikulewicz, Abryanna Sanchez-Bayze, Leanie Sanchez, and Andrea Vigil-German.
