The Lobos softball team defeated Duncan last week, 28 – 3. Combined with Monday’s 17 – 4 win over Pima, the 25th-ranked Lobos remained alive for a berth in the state playoffs.
Their final game of the season was against Mesa Prep on Tuesday, a team the Lobos beat in the season opener, 22 – 0. A loss would almost certainly eliminate the Lobos from the playoffs.
With a win on Tuesday, the Lobos will await the revealing the AIA Division IV State Championship Brackets on Thursday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m.
The Lobos have come on strong down the stretch, winning three of their last four games. In those three wins, they have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 57 – 9. The have won by an average margin of 16 runs per game in the last three victories.
Any team wants to be playing at their best as the playoffs approach and that seems to be the case for the Lobos. Hopefully, they’ll have an opportunity to keep playing after Tuesday’s regular season finale.
