The Ray baseball team entered the 2014 season unhappy with the way the 2013 season ended. They vowed to make amends in what they plan to be a championship season in 2014. They certainly are playing like champions, especially during their current four-game winning streak.

Over their last five games, the ‘Cats are scoring 15 runs per game while allowing just over 4 runs per game to their opponents. Their average runs against includes the 16 runs allowed versus Show Low, the only loss in their last nine games.

Last week they defeated Hayden (14 – 1) and Gilbert Classical Academy (18 – 3).

The ‘Cats pounded out 17 hits, including 8 extra-base hits versus the Lobos. Junior Destry Yocum was the winning pitcher. He also helped himself at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a homerun and a double. Junior Kolton Bray was 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and sophomore Johnny Wernett was 1-for-3 with a homerun and 2 RBI. Jacob Pace, Dominic Bravo, and Douglas McPeak each recorded a multi-hit game.

Upcoming schedule: Mar. 27 vs. St. John’s (4:00 p.m.), Mar. 28 vs. Northland Prep Academy (2:00 p.m.) and Mar. 28 vs. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy (4:00 p.m.). Please check with the school or the team to confirm locations of the games. Some games may be part of a tournament and played at a neutral site.
