Miracle on Main Street this Saturday

There will be many fun things to do Saturday at this year’s Miracle on Main St.

Lots of fun and holiday cheer is planned for the Miracle on Main Street event this weekend in Superior. The day starts off with a benefit corn hole tournament then the event kicks off with food booths, free train rides and entertainment and of course the parade and visits with Santa.

This year’s Spirit of Optimism Community Champion is Robert “Beto” Cervantes. Beto was chosen by the Optimist Club for his ongoing commitment to volunteering in the community. He has served on the Governing Board for Superior School District, served as a Town Councilman and was a teacher for many years. Most recently he has been the lead on many community beautification projects and has been making benches that are located all over town. Beto was recognized by the Superior Town Council in November with a special proclamation and will be the grand marshal in this year’s Miracle on Main St. parade.

The Miracle on Main Street festivities begin with a benefit corn hole tournament for the Superior Food Bank at Felicia’s Ice cream shop on Main Street at noon. Registration is $5 per person and five cans of food. They will also have raffle tickets and food for sale.

Free train rides, entertainment and other food and game booths will open at 4 p.m. Balle Folklorico Alma de Superior will perform at 4:30 p.m.. The parade will begin promptly at 7 p.m. on Main St. and Santa will greet children at the Besich Park following the parade. Calvary Superior worship band will play following the parade. The SHS Senior Class will be hosting a cake walk and bake sale to raise money for their upcoming senior class trip throughout the day.

There is still plenty of time to enter a float in the upcoming Superior Optimist Club Miracle on Main St. light parade on Saturday, Dec. 5. The theme this year is Christmas at the Cinema; you may register your parade entry online athttp://bit.ly/2015MiracleonMain. Prizes are $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.

Any local non-profit groups or churches wishing to participate in the event or still need to register a parade entry should contact Mila Besich-Lira at 520-827-0676 or JoAnn Besich at 520-827-0592.
