Mary “Jane” Cates

Mary “Jane” Cates, 80, passed on May 16, 2016 in Oro Valley. She was born in Antlers, Oklahoma on June 20, 1935.

She married Conrad Hogan on Dec. 12, 1953. They moved to Tucson in 1956, then to San Manuel in 1967, where she lived for 49 years, raising her four sons and many neighboring children. Jane married Joe Cates on March 31, 1990.

Many called her Mom or Granny, and remember her for her love and guidance, as well as her strict rules. She was very active in her church and could be counted on to help with any need that arose. It is unlikely that Jane even knew how many lives she touched. She is probably smiling down from heaven at all of the calls and prayers that her husband and sons have received from the many, many people whose lives she touched.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Grace Williams;, and, granddaughter, Cassidy Cates. She leaves behind her husband, Joe Cates; sons, Barry Hogan, Rick Hogan, Joey Hogan and Scott (Heather) Hogan; stepson Danny Cates; grandchildren, Brandon Hogan, Jenna (Daniel) Fillion, Jordan (Josh) Huston, Trevor Hogan, Tyson Hogan, Mason Hogan, Hallie Hogan, Ashleigh Richardson, Alycia Richardson, Andrew Cates, Austin Cates, Tyler Cates and Dylan Cates; and, great-grandchildren, Asher Fillion, Brynlee Fillion, and, Ryker Houston.

A memorial service was held on May 20 at the Church of Christ in San Manuel.
