Bring the kids and grandkids to Oracle State Park on Saturday, May 17, for a day of ranger-led hands-on activities like making a leather-tooled keychain, planting seeds to take home, and learning to identify animal skulls. Stop by the “Ask Your Master Gardener” corner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with SaddleBrooke Master Gardeners answering gardening questions and presenting tips. Both free with park admission.
On Saturday, June 7, “Celebrate National Trails Day” begins at 8:30 a.m. with guided hikes to discover birds, plants, geology and wildlife. Reservations suggested.
The park, a designated center for environmental education, is open year around on Saturdays and Sundays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. giving visitors time to hike the oak-woodland trails, picnic or relax on the patios and enjoy the cool temperatures, and walk around the historic Kannally ranch house, an adobe villa built in 1929 by one of the earliest cattle ranching families in Oracle. In the living room, an exhibit of 30 impressionistic-style paintings by self-taught cowboy artist Lee Kannally is featured, along with a wildlife slide show of animals visiting a ranch waterhole.
