Wayne Newman was named to the Academic All-American Team in track and field.

Wayne will be a junior this upcoming year at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Bill Taylor, head coach, announced that five Lipscomb student-athletes were named to the Academic all-American teams setting a new school record. Wayne earned the nod on the men’s side for track and field. Madi Talbert, Sally Larson, Paige Stoner and Karly Hibbard placed on the women’s team.

“I’m really proud of our individual honorees,” Coach Taylor said. “They are examples of doing it all. They are national qualifiers and have excellence in the classroom. I really cannot say enough about each of them. They are incredible representatives of Lipscomb and our program in every aspect. “

The Academic All-American program is a student-athlete recognition program. The program selects an honorary sports team composed of the most outstanding student athletes of a specific season for positions in various sports—who in turn are given the honorific “Academic All-American.”

Currently, the program is responsible for the annual selection of 816 Academic All-Americans in Men’s baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and track & field/cross country and Women’s basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and track & field/cross country, as well as at-large teams for both men and women in Division I, II and III and NAIA in all NCAA championship sports.

Congratulations, Wayne!
